In a world where the sun fell by Kashyap Shetty

“Into the void of silence, into the empty space of nothing, the joy of life is unfurled”.

There exists a human.

Possibly not the only one, but he was alone in mind and heart.

He did not care for people; he did not care for the world; he did not care for himself; not because he was heartless, but because he saw no point.

It was not always like this. One could even say it need not have been like this at all.

There was a time when all such claims would have been reversed. A time when the boy longed, desired, felt, and heard all that surrounded him. This boy was fragile, too innocent for corruption, too immature to know the truth. He sat with his legs crossed, gazing at the world he hoped would last forever, his only fear being that of change.

He spoke, not because he had to, not because it served his objectives, but simply because he wanted to. His feelings, simple yet heavy, were a badge he wore on his chest, his childish pride greater than his mind could comprehend.

Alas, such a world could never last.

In this world, there exists nothing permanent.

In time, the world became blurry.

The boy’s eyes weighed on his small face, his hands desperate to hold them open.

His heart became numb, his mind holding on to reality with every thought.

In the end, when the clock struck twelve, his eyes closed.

The world, beautiful as it was, was destined to change.

As the sun descended below the horizon, truth appeared in its place: nothing ever lasts; not all is remembered, and in the end, all will fade to dust. In such a world, there is no need to care, no need to feel, no need to love.

All that exists is a void of silence, an empty space of nothing, and with acceptance came joy.

However, what if it had been different?

In a world where the sun never fell.

Who would he have been?

Would he have been happier?

Would he wish things had been different?

Would he have ever known that which exists in the darkness?

In the end, it could have gone either way.

Nothing is permanent, but that doesn’t mean that his world had to fade, for the opposite could have been true.

It could have become brighter.

But now, there is nothing that can be done.

The boy will only ever know the truth he has seen, ignorant of all else.

I should know, for I, dear readers, am the boy.
